Time is flying. It is already time for the Spring edition of the Communiqué. Our editors tell me we have had another great number of contributors. Such a large number of articles indicates our membership is involved on campuses, engaged with CAPED and able to find a smidgen of time to share experiences that will be helpful to others. Thank you!!
We have just completed our February CAPED Mentoring training and the Chancellor’s Office All Directors training. These were well attended, informative and very helpful. The unity we all feel continues as we DSPS people work together to provide the best support to our students in the country!
We have additional trainings on the horizon. The CAPED Mentoring Program (CMP) will hold its second training in April. It will occur April 19th in Cupertino. If you are part of the CMP please don’t forget to sign up for it. It will be another fabulous training with great speakers and an opportunity to share between mentors and protégées common issues and questions. The following day is our second annual CAPED Spring Drive-In training. April 20th. We will meet at De Anza College in Cupertino (thank you Stacey for hosting). At that training we will have an OCR presentation, legal updates from Paul, strategies sharing facilitated by Tom Thompson, social models of disability, and more on the accessibility audits that are hitting the community colleges. You can register for this at our website: http://www.caped.io
CAPED also continues to plan for the October 18th-22nd convention to be held in Burlingame. The request for proposals should be coming out VERY soon! Perhaps by the time you read this you will have already submitted a proposal to do a workshop in October. Tasneem is our convention chair this year and can be reached at: firstname.lastname@example.org. Please let her know if you have time to volunteer some assistance.
We are keeping a close eye on the political scene. There was a survey by the Chancellor’s Office asking about consolidating categorical programs. CAPED responded and we hope you all completed the survey. Keep your eyes open for emails from CAPED!!
Best wishes for a great spring semester.
Gwyneth Tracy, Ed.D.
